President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo lauded Bataan officials Friday for instituting projects in the fields of agriculture, tourism and education, saying these will help attain her 10-point agenda by way of job generation in the province.
Mrs. Arroyo said Bataan Gov. Enrique Garcia has set aside about two million hectares of barren lands for the production of root crops like cassava to support the needs of the multi-million peso feed mills of the San Miguel Corporation in Mariveles, Bataan. The feed mills, construction of which has begun, is considered as the biggest in Asia. It will support farmers by distributing seeds and fertilizers and giving them ready market for their produce. San Miguel Corporation will also hire contract growers for its poultry business, supporting feeds and allowances for the growers, the Bataan governor said. In the tourism aspect, Ayala Land Corporation has started constructing its project in Morong, Bataan that Mrs. Arroyo said would be inviting more investments and tourists in the area by the backdoor of the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority. In the field of education, the President came to know of the efforts of Bataan officials in setting aside funds for the construction of school buildings in 11 towns and one city of the province. Bataan faces an acute shortage of classrooms, desks and teachers for public elementary and secondary schools. “All these projects of Governor Garcia, his son Rep. Albert Garcia and Rep. Tony Roman would register good and major effects in our job generation target,” the Chief Executive said. The President led in the inauguration of the $ 100-million clean air facilities of Petron Corporation at the country’s largest refinery in Limay, Bataan. The twin facilities – a 22,000-barrel-per-day (bpd) Gasoil Hydrotreater (GOHT) and a 10,000-bpd Light Virgin Naptha Isomerization (Isom) unit, are part of Petron’s investments to contribute to the progress of the Philippine economy.
