Thru the initiative of the local government of Mariveles, a Community-Based Rehabilitation Program (CBRP) was established to take care of persons with disabilities (PWDs). According to Mariveles Mayor Jesse Concepcion, the municipality will provide additional fund to pursue with this program. They are aiming to equip the center with the necessary facilities and teaching resources. The program is named "Dong-In-Tulay" Center. The name was adopted from its investor, Korean Dong-In Group of Companies. The group provided the fund for the construction of the building.

Dr. Danny Velasco headed the center. He is being assisted by a staff consisting of a nurse, four physical therapists, nine trained therapy aides and a special education teacher. Every week, the center is being visited by psychiatrist, psychologist, occupational therapist and a speech therapist from UP General Hospital to check for patients who need rehabilitative care. Children from the different towns of Mariveles are taken care of by the center. Among the various cases being served were orthopedic, speech delayed, cerebral palsy, autism, hearing impaired, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, learning disability, mentally retarded, down syndrome and normal child.

On the other hand, adult patients with these cases were also handled by the center: neuro, ortho, neuropathy, musculoskeletal and other ailments. [via]
