The City of Balanga is included in the list of 13 best rated bird watching sites in the Philippines.

Bird census day happened in the City of Balanga as 14,899 various species of migratory birds flocked with foreign birds. The event was witnessed by the Wild Bird Club of the Philippines (WBCP) and Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), City employees and some students in coastal barangays of Sibacan, Tortugas and Puerto Rivas.

Counting was done by WBCP and DENR representatives. WBCP president Michael Lu proved the increase of the number of migratory birds because of the newly found specie Ruddy Turnstone. Tourists will enjoy the flocking of birds here from September to March. Mr. Rudy De Mesa, the City Administrator explained that the number of migratory birds had increased to 915 this year. This became possible thru the city’s effort of protecting and conserving migratory birds. With this good result, the city will devise new plans to further protect migratory birds and promote bird-watching activities to the residents of Balanga. City's project had started with Ibong Dayo Festival which happened every summer. According to Tourism Assistant Secretary Domingo Ramon Enerio II, from the 600 species of birds 200 are endemic.
