Pawikan Sanctuary in Limay, Bataan

{mosgoogle}Stirred by love for nature and environment and vision for the town to be a sanctuary to marine, Mayor Ver Roque publicized that a Pawikan Sanctuary will soon be established in Limay, Bataan as he led members of civil society and government officials in releasing pawikan or marine turtle hatchlings into the sea.

The releasing of 24 hatchlings of marine turtles into the beaches of Barangays St. Francis and Kitang Doz,  which are from Olive Ridley species of marine turtles, was witnessed by government officials, students, children, housewives and fishermen.

Since the town of Limay is been highly industrialized with the developing of various multi-national companies, such as the Petron Bataan Refinery, Petrochemical Plant, Orica, and others, Mayor Roque seek help from his constituents and the business sector to help him guard and care for the environment.

A seminar on Fishery and Forestry law was also initiated by him to make his constituents conscious of the significance of the environment.

The provincial government of Bataan leaded by Governor Enrique Garcia and his wife Mrs. Vicky Garcia, chair of the Provincial Tourism Council are in full support by these initiatives of Mayor Roque. [via mb.com.ph]
