Teacher-Parent Partnership Towards Learning
Written by Mrs. Estrella Abadia

Most of the parents thought that teaching and making their children learn is the sole responsibility of the teachers. I also observed that after class hours, there were no follow ups of lessons learned in school at home. Parents leave the task of teaching in the hands of teachers. That's why, some pupils got low performance ratings in their classes and worst , some of them remain non-readers.

Our National Hero, Dr. Jose Rizal and her mother, Teodora will always be an inspiration to us because Rizal got his first hand reading experiences thru his mother. Teodora believed that as parent, she has a great responsibility towards the learning achievement of her son and her philosophy lead her son to a great success. Parents play a vital role to influence their children's attitude towards learning, yet most of us didn't realize it. During PTA meetings and conferences, we can use the time to challenge our parents and educate them regarding their important role in the pursuit of quality education. As teachers, we must learn to reach out and build strong relationship with parents, our partners towards the development and improvement of our learners.

Let us challenge all the parents in our school to support our goals of achieving quality education and successful graduates... let us encourage them to be our partners in establishing a classroom community.
