A project is being organized by the Bureau of Agricultural Research (BAR). The goal is to bring defensive cultivation technology for organic vegetable culture in the province of Bataan. This is the battle cry of the Department of Agriculture's (DA), which is "Sapat na Pagkain sa Lahat". the objectives of the project are:

  • to produce off-season high value organic vegetables
  • to utilize animal waste and plant residue as a source of organic fertilizers
  • to determine the combination of farm inputs at least cost to ensure the supply of nutritious and safe vegetables in the market.

According to BAR director Dr. Nicomedes Eleazar, the venture entitled Promotion of Protective Cultivation Technology for High Value Organic Vegetable Production is being tracked by the Bataan Peninsula State University (BPSU). The budget of the project came from the Technology Management for Competitive Agriculture and Fisheries Sectors of the DA-National Agricultural and Fishery Council (DA-NAFC) and the Japan Official Development Assistance's (ODA)-2KR Program Grant Assistance for Underprivileged Farmers. When BAR and NAFC signed a Memorandum of Agreement in 2008, the 2KR Program Grant was granted. They wanted to lead the operation and funding collaboration of feasible agriculture and fisheries projects.

BPSU president Dr. Delfin  Magpantay stated that with this project could develop highly qualified and competitive manpower for organic farming and other endeavors. This project will significantly lessen the amount of chemical inputs and help deal with environment hazards. This technology will benefit the farmers and will provide a safe vegetable supply for the people. [via mb.com.ph]
