With the creation of Authority of the Freeport Area of Bataan (AFAB), former Bataan Export Zone, as another premier investment destination area in the country, like Subic Bay Freeport, logistics and tourism industries of the country are expected to boost up in the coming years.

Deo G.P. Custodio, AFAB chairman, said in an interview that they are now preparing for the masterplan of the 1,750 hectare of the AFAB.

According to Custodio, a logistics facility is the center of the master plan. Aside from from the existing ferry port in Orion, they are planning to put another ferry port in Mariveles.

The location of FAB is ideal as transhipment point to nearby domestic ports and economic zones, as well as a base to trade networks with major industrial cities in the Southeast Asian region.

At present, infrastructure, adequate power supply and an existing port facility (Rouvia Port), several buildings, and environment in mine sewage treatment plant are now set at FAB.

For the first five years of operation, AFAB has a P500 million per year budgetary allocation to tap for its preliminary projects.

Meanwhile, Camaya Cover and Mt. Samat are their means to boost the tourism industry of the province as well as the country.

By 2020, Bataan Freeport is expected to be the finest Freeport choice in the country and will generate more locators. [via mb.com.ph]
