Mr. Eduardo Angara once said, "Education is the most effective instrument not only for personal transformation, but also for national development." But this national development sems vague for the Philippines, considering the quality of education in our country is suffering. One of the problems pestring the quality of education in our country is the disheartening situation of Filipino students. Most public schools lack facilities necessary to provide students with an environment conducive to learning. I have seen many schools which do not have enough chairs and desks for students which could only accommodate at most 45 students are forced to fit in 80 students, making it hard for them to absorb the lessons taught by the teachers. Similarly the teachers find it very difficult to facilitate class discussions given the heat noise of the overcrowded classrooms worse, other public schools does not have enough classrooms for the students. As a results students have to learn the old way under the shade of tress. Sad, but true. Aside from these, students have to share educational materials, particularly books, because our government could not provide a book for every students. Usually, the ratio of books to students is 5:1 which is far from the ideal ratio of 1:1. Sad to say, another factor hindering the quality education in our country is the quality and competitiveness of the teachers. According to a recent news article, some Filipino teachers lack proficiency in subject areas such as English, Mathematics and Science. This is such an alarming news since they should be the ones knowledge in such fields. As what the cliché says “You can never give what But we cannot simply point fingers on which one to blame for the quality of education in our country. It is the problem of each and every one us. That is why we should help solve this in our own little ways we may not solve this in the near future, but as long as we work together for the better, we are assured that in the long run, we could uplift the quality of education in our country and eventually, achieve our national development. --- Ma.
