Menopausal Women Healthy Diet

Since menopausal women are prone to osteoporosis, cancer, cardiovascular diseases and weight problems, DOST (Depatment of Science and Technolgy) is advising menopausal women to have a healthy diet to reduce the risk of these diseases.

In addition, menopausal women must have a combination of dietary changes, increased physical activity and weight loss.

Menopause is the duration when a woman experiences erratic menstrual periods, due to skipped ovulation. When a woman is in her menopausal period, the timing and duration of the flow become unpredictable.

Other symptoms of menopause include hot or cold flashes, night sweats, migraine, rapid heartbeat, itching and drying of the reproductive organ, back pains, joint pains, depression, fatigue, irritability, memory loss, sleep disturbance, and decreased libido.

Generally, DOST said that women under this stage should take 20 to 30 % of calorie intake same as for all adults. Calcium is also recommended since it is vital in fighting osteoporosis. It also helps the cardiovascular health. Calcium intake of 1000 milligrams per day (mg/d) is recommended for all adults.

Menopausal stage is inevitable. Men and women will soon be experiencing all the effects of this stage in due time and to lessen some of its effects, one should accept this fully and should be prepare through healthy diet. [via mb.com.ph]
