Because of the tremendous heat nowadays, people continuously crave for cold refreshments and desserts. But then, not all can indulge these refreshments especially, those who have hypertension, cardiovascular disease and diabetes. And with this, DoST-FNRI (Department of Science and Technology, Food and Nutrition Research Institute) developed a low-fat, low-sugar ice cream which is not only refreshing but also healthy for the body. The low-fat, low-sugar ice cream was developed by a group led by Ma. Elena Fernandez, a senior science research specialist at the FNRI.
The product may last for 50 weeks with proper storage and comes in two flavours, chocolate and vanilla. FNRI continues to develop food products that not only satisfy consumers but also improve the nutritional status of Filipinos to avoid certain diseases. Presently, FNRI is ready to commercialize the product to those interested institutions that will comply with FNRI standards. [via mb.com.ph] |
