As part of the fiesta two-week-long celebration in the City of Balanga, Bataan, a "tuyo" (dried fish) cooking and drying contests was held in the city.

The new recipes using dried fish include Tuyo Bataan & Bicol Express, Tuyo Omelette, Tuyo Kaldereta, Sweet-and-Sour Spicy Tuyo and Tuyo Con Chile Express. Another housewife also tried a sandwich filling using dried fish.

City Mayor Joet Garcia and his wife, Isabel, tested the different recipes presented in the contest.

The winners received recognitions with cash prizes: sweet-and-sour spicy tuyo bagged the first price of P5,000 plus a certificate of recognition, followed by Tuyo Con Chile Express and Tuyo Bataan Express with P3,000 and P2,000 cash prizes, respectively.

The provincial office of the Department of Trade and Industry, led by provincial director Yay Lasam, included dried fish under the One Town, One Product (OTOP) program of the government.

Recently, City of Balanga was declared as LGU Island winner for Best OTOP Implementer in the 2010 OTOP Congress held in Pasay City. [via businessmirror.com.ph]
