A private sector has announced that they have completed a pre-feasibility study to draw a master plan for Subic-Clark-Batangas into a logistics corridor that will position Luzon as an international trans-shipment point in Asia. The pre-feasibility study, which is done by National Competitiveness (NCC), includes the term of reference and scope of a more detailed study. With the said study the main goal is to come up with a Subic-Clark-Batangas Inter-modal Logistics Corridor Master Plan for a seamless inter-modal logistics corridor across the three fastest growing regions in Luzon.
The master plan aims to transform Subic-Clark-Batangas region into a logistics corridor that is expected to increase trade volumes, agricultural production as well as the diversification of economic activities. The idea of the said plan was first raised by President Arroyo in 2007 after she declared that Luzon should be developed as a major trans-shipment and logistics hub in Asia. And now, in pushing the master plan, it is envisioned to address the high cost of shipping goods across Luzon as well as between the island and other ports in the country and in the Asian region.
The initial study already suggested buildings to be constructed in order to start with the master plan that will be pushed in stages. [via mb.com.ph] |
