The Energy Regulatory Commission had authorized the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines to build facilities that will connect GNPower Mariveles Coal Plant Ltd., a 600-megawatt coal power plant, with Luzon grid. This project will help to prevent power crisis that will badly affect the Luzon grid until 2011.NGCP has signed a contract with GNPower last January 2010 for the Connection Asset Construction and Maintenance of this project. The said agreement stated that NGCP shall build the connection assets and shall provide the needed financing for its construction. In consideration, GNPower shall pay NGCP the associated connection charges. These connection assets will be beneficial to deliver power from the generation resource. The link will be finished by August 2012. About P918.7 million will be the expenditure for the construction of 19-kilometer 230-kilovolt transmission line to connect GNPower's coal power plant to the Luzon grid at the Limay B substation. This will also cover the 3-km temporary line that will supply power during the testing and commissioning period of GNPower's facility and the upgrade of the Limay B substation. Power supply situation will become essential in Luzon beginning this year, the government’s Power Supply and Demand Situationer for 2006-2014 stated. [via business.inquirer.net] |
