BPSU's (Bataan Polytechnic State University) research, extension and auxiliary services that these agricultural research projects would likely to help in the implementation of science-based agricultural projects in the province.

Dr. Gregorio Rodis, BPSU vice president for research, extension and auxiliary services and concurrent officer in charge for administration and finance cited the hydroponics project of the university.

Hydroponics is the technique of growing plants without soil, he said. Instead, it uses a solution that provides the nutrients needed by the plant to grow.

The said system will fruitfully grow some vegetables like lettuce, sweet pepper, celery and cucumber.

The research projects are funded by the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCARRD) which is one of the five sectoral councils of the Department of Science and Technology.

According to Reynan Calderon, BPSU science and research specialist, PCARRD is currently funding different farms in Bataan including a goat farm in Mariveles; a sweet-potato farm in Bagac; a mango farm in Limay; goat and mango farms in Balanga City; a pineapple farm in Samal; a tomato farm in Hermosa; a coffee farm in Orani; and a sitaw (string-bean) farm in Dinalupihan.

Started last year, PCCARD and Calderon's team is visiting the famers regularly to see the development in line with the science and technology techniques and procedures.
