Bataeños are continually learning on the significance of mangrove reforestation in the environment that sooner or later encourages them to forcefully join in the greening of Bataan coastal areas. Auditor and Coordinator of Sagip Lingap Yamang Dagat (Salba), Susan Capuli said that their officers are frequently visiting coastal barangays here to teach villagers on mangrove reforestation.
Information campaigns are also being conducted in some of their coastal villages like in Limay town. A group of small fisherfolks, assisted by Salba, has a mangrove-reforestation project in this town. Areas of Orani, Orion and Limay, now operates mangrove nurseries as part of the mangrove reforestation campaign. In addition, other provincial agencies like Project Management Office (PMO), Environment and Natural Resources Office (PG-ENRO) tied up with the university and colleges here to include in the National Service Training Program (NSTP) the education campaign on environmental protection and conservation.
College students here as part of NSTP are educated to defend and protect the environment by their personnel. He also said the students are regularly informed and updated on the province’s environmental program, particularly the mangrove reforestation in coastal areas here. Mangroves serve the following functions defending the environment: filter of sea pollutants; fish and crustaceans breeding and spawning ground; fish sanctuary; and barriers against big waves. The provincial government is hoping that this massive education campaign on the environment will help the people develop a profound sense of environmental concern. [via businessmirror.com.ph] |
