With the recent "Bird Watching Festival" held in Balanga City in Bataan, Tourism Secretary Ace Durano and foreign tourists from Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Korea were amazed by the flock of the eye-catching migratory birds here.

Migratory birds like,  Little Egrets, Purple Herons, Brahminy Kites, Peregrine Falcon, Chestnut Checked Starling, White Breasted Waterhens, Rails, Wood Sandpiper, Rufous Necked Stint, Grey Heron and species of Kingfishers, Flowerpeckers and Sandpipers can now be observed in some coastal barangays of this city.

According to the Wild Bird Club here, the city is a perfect stopover for migrating forest and water birds from Russia, China, Japan, Korea, Siberia and as far as Canada due to its preserved thick mangrove forest, grassland and wetland. The birds are usually spotted in the early morning and in the afternoon during the months of October up to March.

Balanga Mayor Joet Garcia and other provincial government officials are now allocating funds funds for the construction of the Balanga Wetland Park with an area of about two hectares costing between P20 million and P30 million.

Construction of the information center for the Wetland Park is now going with the help of Wild Bird Club. Anyone can experience watching the migratory birds at no cost, but they are encouraged to plant in the mangrove spot to lend a hand in the development of the land. [via mb.com.ph]
