Some 20 Brahminy Kite eagles, locally known as Philippines lawin were released to the 18,000 hectare Bataan Natural Park.

The Brahminy Kite eagle (Haliastur indus) is a raptor found in the Indian subcontinent, Southeast Asia and Australia.

Mila Ramirez of ecosystem management specialist of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources in Bataan, the eagles were either rescued by the Protected Areas and Wildlife Bureau or turned over to the agency by pet owners.

The eagles were nursed to health at the PAWB center in Quezon City before they were released at noon into the wild near the Abucay campus of the Bataan Peninsula State University.

Students, teachers, leaders of non-government organizations and local officials freed them with prayers for survival in their new home.

The said release of the birds to a natural wildlife habitat is expected to help them enhance their population. [via]
