Orion's Iron Fortified Rice Project |

Early this year, the town of Orion in Bataan had been chosen pilot area for the government’s iron-fortified rice project.According to Mayor Antonio L. Raymundo Jr. the project aims to address the problem of iron-deficiency anemia which is prevalent mostly among children and poor families in many parts of the country. Orion has an allocation of 5,000 sacks of rice per month from NFA. The IFR is sold in the municipality’s health centers. Beneficiaries of the project will be the poorest of the poor families in Orion. These families are entitled to purchase six kilos of the low-grade variety of rice every week at P18.25 per kilo and up to 10 kilos of the high-grade variety at P25 per kilo. 
Puting Buhangin, Sta. Elena, Daan Pare, Sabatan, Bilolo, Daan Bago, General Lim, Camachile, Bantan, Calangusan, Wawa will be the Barangay-beneficiaries of the project. (Via PIA-Bataan) |
