Out of five sea turtle species found in the Philippines, three species that are nesting at the shores of Bagac and Morong in the province of Bataan are the Hawksbill, Olive Ridley and the Green Turtle. These sea turtles arrive in the Morong beach to produce and deposit eggs from September to February.

The conservationists of the Pawikan Conservation Center uncover the eggs by turning up the sand and place the eggs in the hatchery of the sanctuary for protection for 40 to 60 days. Eventually, baby sea turtles are emerged from the eggs in the hatchery of the sanctuary.

As advocate, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo directed the release of about 30 three-day-old Olive Ridley sea turtles into Morong sea and ultimately to the South China Sea. In her speech last March 12, President GMA brought back to mind that her father, the ex-president Diosdado Macapagal discussed with another for the coming back of the Turtle islands in Tawi-Tawi to the Philippines from Malaysia.

As stated by research, just 1 to 3 percent of the set free baby sea turtles will remain alive and the females will come back automatically to the beach where they were emerged from the eggs when it is time for them to produce and deposit eggs.

With this information, we must help to save the endangered species of sea turtles from total extinction.
