The provincial Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Bataan generated 24,872 new jobs in its various programs in 2007. The largest part of the jobs generated is composed of One-Town-One-Product (OTOP) projects which jobs like mango growing, cashew production and food processing are included. The employment generation target of 11,930 jobs was greater than doubled to surprising 24,872 new jobs in 2007. Comparatively, a total of 11,556 jobs were generated by the provincial DTI in 2006. GN Power, a coal-fired power plant being founded in Mariveles, initially invested PhP12 billion to compose the largest part of more than PhP13 billion investments generated for 2007, which partly explained the overshoot in jobs target. Small and medium enterprises (SME) invested PhP10.47 million. Ninety one new SMEs, greatest number of which are in the OTOP program, were developed in various portions of Bataan compared to ten SMEs in 2006. The One-Town-One-Product (OTOP) projects contributed largely to the 24,872 new jobs generated by DTI. We must support the OTOP projects to increase the employment. |
