The license to reach the state of being one of the Philippine retail electricity suppliers has been given to GN Power Mariveles Coal Plant Ltd. Co. (GMCP) by the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC).Others that have been given licenses to operate were GNPower, Trans-Asia Oil and Energy Development Corp. and Aboitiz Energy Solutions Inc. To enter in developing, financing, acquiring permits and licenses for building, processing and operating a 600 megawatt electric power generation facility in Bataan province were the reasons why GMCP was formed. GMPC is now given legal approval to sell, broker, market or collect electricity to customers in the contestable market where the customers are given given legal power to choose a supplier of electricity. Six months after ERC affirms the beginning of retail contest and pen access is the time when GMCP and the other retail electricity suppliers will be supplying the contestable market. Increase in choices of suppliers of electricity is advantageous for customer, only if there is cheap electricity. If all retail electricity suppliers offer expensive electricity, it is disadvantageous for customer. Suppliers of gasoline and suppliers of electricity are similar. [Via ABS-CBN Interactive] |
