Golf Course in Hermosa?
Friday, 03 November 2006

In a formal expression of the purpose approved by Pastolan Village officials and sent to the National Commission on Indigenous People (NCIP), members of the Aeta primitive social group expressed deep regret for the lack of consultation and that they were not told of a demand for land survey by the Hanjin Heavy Industries Co. (HHIC) on a suggested 36-hole golf course in their territory derived from their ancestor at Pastolan Village in Barangay Tipo, Hermosa, Bataan.

"We want to make sure that the Pastolan Aetas will not be left empty-handed, in fact we want them to benefit the most from this endeavor. The construction of the golf course would certainly provide jobs, while preserving the natural beauty of the land," Arreza also said.

He added that an alternative area of 480 hectares in the Hermosa economic zone is ready to accommodate the golf course project if the first area be determined unsuitable.

Giving of information of request for survey of any land to be used in any project to the owner of the land is a must, isn’t it? If the land is decided suitable, the project has to pass through assessment to find the possible environmental and social forceful effects of the project and the corresponding measure to make the effects less severe. Then, the series of actions of consultation begins to present the reasons for and the reasons against the project. The proposed project is subject to the owner of the land for approval, isn’t it?
