The town of Abucay in the province of Bataan is the place of one of the oldest Catholic churches in the Philippines. The Saint Dominic Parish Church where Tomas Pinpin co-authored and printed the earliest books in the Philippines, was constructed in 1558 by the Spanish Dominican friars. After over 400 years, the Filipino members of the Order of Friars, famous as Dominicans, are in Abucay, Bataan. They are now constructing an emerging university town. From its establishment in 1620 until now, the Colegio de San Juan de Letran has another new campus, a 15 hectares of what used to be pastureland located in the site now known as Dominican Hills in Barangay Gabon, Abucay, Bataan. Letran-Abucay is located about 600 meter above sea level, about 12 kilometers away from City of Balanga, the capital of Bataan, and 8 kilometers away from the center of the town of Abucay. It is capable of being reached by way of the road now known as Dominican Hills Avenue, linked to the Roman Superhighway. |

By April 2007, the $2.3billion loan utilized to build the Bataan nuclear power plant was paid in full. To help in serious attempts of the Philippine government to move away from fossil fuels such as oil and coal for a big part of its energy requirements, rehabilitating the mothballed Bataan nuclear power plant is one of the choices being seriously considered. By February 2008, the International Atomic Energy Agency came to see the Bataan nuclear power plant and permitted the Philippine government to go ahead with rehabilitation. To satisfy increasing demand for power, the Philippine government may invite investors to rehabilitate the Bataan nuclear power plant at a price of around $800 million. |

The youth of the Philippines must be aware of the importance of the Araw ng Kagitingan Day of Valor, when the entire country observes the Filipino gallantry, bravery and heroism; and pays tribute not only to the war heroes but also to the veterans of the Second World War. The Battle of Bataan perceived the Filipino forces side by side with American allies entering in war against the Japanese invaders. The infamous Death March took place after the Fall of Bataan, the last province who gave up to the Japanese invaders. |
